CCMA certification renewal
A CCMA certification is valid for 2 years. To renew, complete 10 continuing education (CE) credits in each cycle.
Continuing education
- 10 continuing education credits every 2 years; 2 hours of attendance = 1 credit.
- Excess credits cannot be carried into the next cycle.
- NHA CE is recorded automatically; outside CE needs official documentation; NHA reviews submissions in about 5 business days.
- One set of 10 credits renews all the NHA certifications you hold.
Renewal fee
$195 every 2 years. About $8 a month; stacked certifications have a separate fee.
Late renewal and reinstatement
- Expired less than 30 days: renew normally with no extra fee (the handbook calls this a one-month grace period).
- Expired more than 30 days but less than 1 year: complete 15 CE credits and pay the $292.50 renewal fee plus a $99 reinstatement fee ($391.50 total). After 1 year you must retake the exam.
- California CCMA holders who train other medical assistants need 60 CE hours every 5 years.
- NHA certification programs are accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
Facts checked against NHA’s test plan and Candidate Handbook on October 21, 2026. Rules can change: confirm with NHA before your exam. CCMA Prep is an independent app, not made by or connected to NHA.
